Surrey leisure scheme nears milestone
Work on the second phase of a £12.6m renovation at Leatherhead Leisure Centre in Surrey is expected to be completed on 7 June, according to the local authority.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has confirmed a range of new facilities are set to open on the weekend of 12-13 June, including new first-floor male and female gym changing facilities. Sauna, steam and therapy rooms; a reception area and a café are also among the new facilities, which will complement a 438.6sq m (4,721sq ft) fitness suite and studio created in phase one.
In addition to the 90-station fitness suite, a purpose-built soft play area fitted out by House of Play, a crèche and two squash courts also comprised stage one of the A+G Architects-designed scheme. Hertfordshire-based company Volker Fitzpatrick is now 14 months into a 22-month scheme, with phase three due to commence at the end of May to refurbish the pool area and sports hall.
David Sharland, portfolio holder for health, safety and wellbeing at MVDC, said: "The completion of Phase Two is an important milestone in the redevelopment of Leatherhead Leisure Centre. "The new facilities will serve Mole Valley residents for many years to come. We are now looking forward to the next phase of development."
