RIAS unveils architecture award shortlist

A former swimming pool and a hotel in Edinburgh, as well as a centre for the arts and creative industries in Glasgow, have been shortlisted for one of the UK's most prestigious architecture prizes.
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has shortlisted 11 schemes for the Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award 2009, which is due to be announced on 20 November. Among the shortlisted projects is the Malcolm Fraser Architects-designed transformation of Edinburgh's former Infirmary Street swimming baths into a new gallery, weaving studio and offices for Dovecot Studios.
Edinburgh's Hotel Missoni, designed by Allan Murray Architects, and the Elder and Cannon Architects-designed Trongate 103 centre in Glasgow have also been included on the shortlist. RIAS president David Dunbar said: "This year's entries range throughout the length and breadth of Scotland and our shortlist reflects the high standards which are being achieved in every contemporary building type and in restoration."
