£10m Amphitheatre to open in Northern Ireland
The £10m Amphitheatre Wellness Centre in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, is to open on 17 August.
Designed by Given Architects, the centre will boast an “Olympic-standard” fitness suite supplied by Technogym, a floodlit synthetic sports pitch, squash courts, a synthetic tennis court, a 25m swimming pool, a soft-play area and a multi-purpose sports hall for badminton, five-a-side football, netball, basketball and gymnastics.
The centre was built on the site of the Carrickfergus Leisure Centre, which was demolished in 2007.
Norman Houston, development manager at Carrickfergus Borough Council, said: “Our key council objectives are wholly committed to improving the quality of life for all and this project goes a long way to achieving our goal of making Carrickfergus an attractive place to live, work, invest and spend leisure time.
“We expect the Amphitheatre to attract a new wave of visitors, both corporate and personal, from all over the province and beyond. Research has already shown us that a ready market exists for Amphitheatre and that it will play an important role for community, tourism, business and the region’s general economy.”
