New Aberdeen stadium location approved
A new community stadium, which will be home to Aberdeen Football Club (AFC), is to be situated at Loirston Loch after the local authority backed the site as its preferred location for the venue.
Plans are now set to be developed for the new facility, following Aberdeen City Council's (ACC) decision to approve the findings of a feasibility study that identified Loirston Loch as the most deliverable option for the stadium ahead of a site at Kings Link's. According to the study, the Loirston Loch proposals also raise the possibility of including facilities for Cove Rangers Football Club and the local community, while also acting as a catalyst for further development.
AFC managing director, Duncan Fraser, said: "Now we know Loirston is the site we need to focus on the planning process and to ensure we deliver a stadium that will be a fantastic venue for our fans and a real asset to the local community and city and shire." The study was carried out by a team of consultants led by Gardiner and Theobold, including London-based PMP Consultancy.
