Scottish ski centre plans submitted
Plans for the construction of a £2.9m dry ski slope and clubhouse at Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex near Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, have been submitted to East Ayrshire Council.
The proposals, which have been drawn up by architects Lawrence McPherson Associates, include a new 115m (377ft) adult ski slope and a 30m (98ft) nursery ski slope in addition to the new clubhouse facility, which will feature a café-bar, function rooms and conference facilities. It is hoped that the scheme will establish the complex as one of the leading snow sports facilities in Scotland, with funding already secured from the Big Lottery Fund. However, confirmation of further Lottery cash and other funders is still required to meet the total cost of the scheme.
Lawrence McPherson Associates partner Stuart MacPherson said: "The centre has suffered from a lack of investment for a long time and it will be great to see it refurbished if the planning application is successful. "The facility is already popular with skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers and sledgers, but the new slope will help to attract a new breed of skiers and enthusiasts."
