The Harbour Club expands into Notting Hill

Next Generation Clubs is to open a second Harbour Club following its £16.1m acquisition of the premier health, fitness and tennis club, from Cannons last year.

The new Harbour Club in Notting Hill, West London will be located on the site of an existing tennis club, The Carlton Club, which is already owned by Next Generation.

The health, fitness and racquets club operator said The Carlton Club is a natural fit for the Harbour Club brand as it has a similar high profile membership with luxury health and fitness services as well as secure private parking.

Existing members will be entitled to use both Harbour Club sites.

“This is an exciting prospect and will open up the Harbour Club’s unrivalled health and fitness facilities to Notting Hill," said Scott Lloyd, managing director of Next Generation. "The Harbour Club, Notting Hill will provide an outstanding health and fitness resource for W2 residents.”

Construction has also begun on a new £12m Next Generation fitness and racquets club has begun at Carlton Park, Leicester.

Facilities at the 115,000sq ft (10,700sq m) club will include six indoor tennis courts, three squash courts, an aerobics studio, an indoor swimming pool, a fully equipped gym and a Celsius spa.

Outdoor amenities will include six tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool and a basketball court.

There will also be a restaurant and bar serving light meals, a cinema and a soft play area and creche for members with children.

The club is scheduled to open during summer 2006 and is expected to create around 100 jobs in the area.

A spokesperson for Next Generation said the Carlton Park site aims to attract around 5,000 members.

The club will be the third new Next Generation club to open in three years and will take the number of clubs in the company portfolio to 14.
