Council approves Carlisle action plan

A new three-year strategy outlining a number of proposals for the transformation of Carlisle has been given the green light by the city council.
The Carlisle Renaissance Action Plan 2009-12 was formally approved by Carlisle City Council (CCC) on 3 March, and has now received the support of all the partners involved with the scheme. Cumbria County Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Cumbria Vision have already backed the proposals, which include the development of the city's tourism and cultural offering, as well as improvements to local infrastructure.
Bryan Gray, chair of Carlisle Renaissance Board, said: "The Carlisle Renaissance Action Plan sets out or four transformational priorities. These are working with partners to establish a world-class university in the city, and support and promote Carlisle's unique heritage and cultural offer. "We also plan to improve the performance and competitiveness of the city centre, and help open up the employment opportunities of the M6 corridor."
