New exhibition powered by the elements to debut on rooftop of Amsterdam's NEMO next month

Amsterdam’s Science Centre NEMO is preparing to debut its rooftop Energetica exhibition, turning the space into an interactive, innovative experience to show visitors how to use the power of the elements to generate energy.

The unique exhibition, designed by multi-disciplinary creative agency NorthernLight and Berlin-based Archimedes Exhibitions, will turn the science centre’s roof into an interactive playground, with solar chairs, solar fountains, water cascades, a rainbow maker and three innovative windmills among the interactives which respond to sun, wind and water. In addition to the new exhibition, the science centre will also debut a new rooftop restaurant.

“The new Energetica exhibition will be open to all people visiting the NEMO roof free of charge,” said a statement. “This way the highest city square of Amsterdam, being part of the science museum, will even be more connected to science and technology.”

The roof temporarily closed to the public on 7 March and is scheduled to reopen on 22 April as Energetica. The entire museum will be free to enter on 23 and 24 April to celebrate the new exhibition. The bulk of funding for the €1m (US$1.1m, £781,000) project has come from BankGiro Lottery, with additional greenery funded by the Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund.
