Snøhetta's US exhibition will explore studio's culture and design philosophy
The Center for Architecture in Portland, Oregon, is to launch the first major US exhibition on international architecture studio Snøhetta and their work around the world.
Named Snøhetta: People, Process, Projects, the exhibition will explore the practice's culture and design philosophy and follows on from a similar event held last year at the Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen. It will be launched on 17 April 2016 to kick off Design Week Portland and will run until 30 June 2016.
Designed, built, and curated by the designers themselves, the exhibition space will be modelled on Snøhetta’s own studios. This will allow visitors to experience first-hand the detail of the workshop space and to interact with the designers behind projects including the James Beard Public Market in Portland, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Expansion and a sanctuary for hikers in the remote and icy wilderness of southern Norway.
The exhibition will focus on Snøhetta’s connection to art and culture, their utilisation of craftsmanship traditions and the role modern technology plays in their design work.
In a statement, the studio said: “The exhibition allows visitors to step inside, interact with, and explore Snøhetta. Join us at the lunch table or inside the workshop, where 3D prototyping and traditional craftsmanship drive conversations and exploration of new forms, and learn about how Snøhetta is designing the world’s foremost net-zero energy buildings that will produce more energy over their lifetime than they use.
“Named for its uniquely social focus, the exhibition will engage visitors directly in the studio’s social and collaborative approach.”
