New Football Your Way campaign to help disabled footballers return after lockdowns
A new campaign will look to help disabled footballers return to the sport and 'reclaim the moments they have missed', as COVID-19 restrictions are gradually lifted across the country.
The Football Your Way campaign has been launched by England Football, The Football Association’s recently launched participation and grassroots arm.
The campaign will encourage preparation for a return to the court or pitch for players, whenever they feel ready to do so.
As part of the campaign, a new online information Football Your Way Hub has been launched to help support and motivate disabled people to feel confident and empowered to take part in football-based activities.
James Kendall, The FA’s Director of Football Development said: “This past year has been some of the most challenging times not just for football, but across society.
"We know that grassroots football has the power to change people’s lives for the better and the Football Your Way campaign will help to encourage disabled footballers back on to the pitch and playing the game they love.
"There are plenty of ways for people to get involved, from taking part in challenges to learning new skills, so I’d encourage everyone to get active and give it a go whenever they feel ready to return.”
As part of the campaign, England Football has worked in partnership with Cerebral Palsy Sport to create new Frame Football skills cards which form part of the resources in the Football Your Way hub. The activity and skills cards, developed using the expertise and knowledge of CP Sport, support individuals to play frame football at home, in the garden or in outdoor spaces with family and friends.
CP Sport chief operating officer, Adi Fawcett, said: "We're proud to be a part of the Football Your Way campaign.
"Our mission at CP Sport is to provide as many opportunities as we can for people with cerebral palsy to enjoy sport and we work closely with our key partners to make this happen.
"It has been a privilege to work so closely with the FA on this project, to have the financial support of Toyota Parasport and to have produced a resource as part of this campaign that can also be accessed as part of our Frame Football rental service."
To further inspire disabled footballers to get active, England Football has also launched the 3 Step Challenge.
The challenge encourages players to design their own 3 Step Challenge to help prepare for their return to the pitch, by picking an activity based around the number three.
