Luxury Lake Lucerne medi-wellness centre unveils three new comprehensive COVID-19 recovery retreats

by Megan Whitby | 29 Sep 2020

Luxury wellness destination, The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, has unveiled new programmes to answer guests’ physical and emotional needs in a COVID-19 era, at its five-star medi-wellness facility, Waldhotel.

The Waldhotel is focused on physical and mental wellbeing, inspired by a ‘Healthy by Nature’ ethos. The facility features a team of multidisciplinary physicians specialising in cardiology, internal medicine, dermatology and orthopaedics, as well as psychosomatics, dentistry, nutrition and gastroenterology.

As physical and mental wellbeing is more important than ever, following the pandemic’s outbreak, the facility has rolled out three new Executive retreats focused on preventative health solutions, mindfulness and mobility, respectively.

Conceptualised as the ultimate medical MOT, the first programme is named Executive Check-up Pro and kicks off with Waldhotel’s signature private medical check-up.

The two-day screening includes a clinical check, blood analysis, stress test, bone density measurement, dental examination with two x-rays, an abdomen ultrasound, echocardiogram and skin screening.

Following a comprehensive review, a medical team member will hold a private meeting with guests to assess the results and suggest personalised action recommendations.

The two-day programme has a starting cost of CHF2,200 per person (€2,034, US$2,372, £1,844), includes lunch and dinner, and can be booked with or without a stay at the Waldhotel. The retreat can also be booked as a one or three-day experience.

In a nod to the high levels of stress felt during the pandemic, Waldhotel is also offering a two-day Executive Mindfulness Pro programme.

In harmony with the ‘Healthy by Nature’ ethos, this holistic mindfulness course focuses on helping guests develop potential to build positive relationships and work more productively and creatively.

The retreat features two 30-minute mindfulness lectures, a 50-minute mindfulness practice session, a 90-minute De-Stress Massage, one 15-minute cryotherapy treatment and a 50-minute Yoga or Qi Gong session. It has a starting cost of CHF1,950 per person (€1,802,US$2,102, £1,634), includes lunch and dinner, and has the option to be upgraded to a three-day course.

The third package is inspired by the toll taken on fitness and mobility levels due to months of working from home or time-spent in recovery from illness.

Executive Mobility Pro has been conceived to address this using a combination of the latest fitness programmes to target and improve muscle weight and structure, coordination skills and overall mobility levels.

Over the course of two days, physiotherapists, sports medicine specialists and fitness instructors will analyse guests’ musculoskeletal structure to create a tailored exercise regime for them to use at home and build into their routine.

Following a signature Waldhotel clinical check-up, the retreat proceeds with a two 50-minute PT sessions, a functional movement screening, two 15-minute cryotherapy treatments, a 90-minute de-stress massage, a 90-minute cooking class featuring nutritional advice and two instalments of Waldhotel’s ‘The Elements’ programme – a series of guided outdoor activities in the fresh Alpine air.

The Mobility Pro has a starting price of CHF1,390 (€1,284, US$1,498, £1,165) includes lunch and dinner and can be upgraded to a three day package.

Opened in late 2017, the Bürgenstock Hotel is also home to the Alpine Spa which ranges over 107,000sq ft on three levels.

Facilities include 13 treatment rooms, three private spa suites, wet areas with hammam, sauna, whirlpools and hydrotherapy, a 24-hour fitness centre and a Kids Club.
