Hilton drives Latin American expansion with Waldorf Astoria and resort planned for Mexico
Spread across a 100-acre site near the town of Cancun in the eastern state of Quintana Roo, the Hilton Cancun resort and the Waldorf Astoria Cancun are set to open in 2021.
Design firms SB Architects, EDSA and HBA have been hand-selected to create “a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces” throughout both buildings and will take inspiration from the surrounding area's natural elements.
The design of both properties will incorporate variations of modern lines, repetitive patterns and undulating forms that mimic the sea, while traditional Mexican colours and materials will be used to reinforce a sense of place.
The Astoria will feature 150 guest rooms and suites, with waterfront or mangrove-facing terraces and private balconies. It will also feature a signature spa – integrating Mexican healing traditions with native ingredients – in addition to two plunge pools, a gym and two dining experiences.
The larger Hilton Cancun will have 600 guest rooms, a swimming pool complex, and six bars and restaurants.
Expansive meetings and events space across both hotels will be available to accommodate everything from small gatherings to large weddings.
The project is being developed by real estate firm Parks Hospitality and set to open in 2021.
Juan Corvinos, Hilton’s vice president of development for Latin America and the Caribbean, said: "Representing our luxury and upscale brands respectively, Waldorf Astoria Cancun and Hilton Cancun will offer guests a taste of Mexican culture."
Hilton has a portfolio of more than 100 hotels and resorts in Latin America, including more than 50 in Mexico – seven of which opened this year. More than 70 hotels are planned to open throughout the region in the future, including nearly 30 more in Mexico.
