Purple Ink Studio design submerged 20,000sq ft spa for Shreyas

by Jane Kitchen | 24 Oct 2016

Shreyas Yoga Retreat in India has opened a new 20,000sq ft (1,858sq m) partially submerged spa, designed by Akshay and Aditi Heranjal from Purple Ink Studio.

Anaha, the Spa at Shreyas includes a main building that descend below the earth, with the light and air movement planned from a series of sunken courts. Facilities include four dedicated ayurveda therapy rooms, two rooms for mud therapy, and a separate naturotherapy section.

The spa also features a gymnasium, yoga studio, four rooms for Swedish massage, rooms for Thai massage, and rooms for hydrotherapy, acupressure and acupuncture.

Each spa room is positioned to offer views of the surroundings, whilst concealing the guests from the outside with local exposed brick jaali works. Separate spa facilities for men and women will include steam rooms and experiential showers.

A herb garden provides fresh local ingredients used in the scrubs and masks.

A 2,000sq ft (186sq m) Meditation and Yoga pavilion has large openings to the east, allowing natural sunlight to create a powerful setting for the Yoga sessions at sunrise. The Large Pavilion opens up further to a series of private Yoga and Meditation Spaces.
