McFit will have dedicated women-only spaces as part of design-led 'modernisation offensive'
– Hagen Wingertszahn and Dr Jobst Müller-Trimbusch, joint CEOs, RSG Group
Having piloted the McFit rebrand earlier this year, RSG Group has now lifted the lid on the details of its “modernisation offensive.”
The McFit makeover was trialled at clubs in Vienna and Heilbronn earlier this year and now the multi-million Euro rebrand is set to roll out across the estate.
Between September and December, four studios in Munich and one studio in Cologne will be reopened with the rebrand. Further refurbishments will follow at the beginning of next year.
In line with the trends for female-only areas in health clubs, more space is being designated for women at all the clubs. They'll be stocked with equipment that's popular with women, such as standing abduction, glute booster racks and functional equipment. In some locations the women’s area will be a studio within a studio and accessed separately via the women’s changing room. RSG Group has not commented on how this set-up might be impacted by the needs of the trans community, which is seeing more clubs opting for gender-neutral changing rooms and workout spaces.
The McFit brand was first launched in Germany by Rainer Schaller in 1997, when he pioneered the discount principle in the fitness industry. Now joint CEOs Dr Jobst Müller-Trimbusch and Hagen Wingertszahn are taking it to the next level with more variety and challenge.
“Over the years, the brand has constantly changed and developed, becoming the best-known fitness brand in Germany,” says Müller-Trimbusch. “We want to continue Rainer Schaller’s legacy, but also set our own impulses and are now looking forward to taking McFit to the next level with the launch of a nationwide modernisation offensive.”
Steel, concrete and wood have been used to create a motivating and inviting environment. In addition to a variety of training equipment, there will be the addition of table tennis tables.
Wingertszahn said: “With the new look and feel, modified training concepts and fresh ideas, we are opening the next chapter of McFIT and making ourselves fit for the future.”
