Moxy Berlin hotel brings 'fun, impromptu and playful' experiences to German capital
Hospitality giant Marriott International has opened its sixth experiential Moxy Hotel property in the heart of Berlin’s cultural epicentre.
The 210-room Moxy Berlin, located in the Ostbahnhof district, is a design-led, high-tech contemporary space designed to encourage “fun, impromptu and playful” experiences.
The concept is realised through the hotel’s colourful Living Rooms, game rooms and bar areas, which fuse bare concrete walls and other raw materials with bright colours, props, art installations and ambient lighting.
Guests are encouraged to take selfies in the photobooth-inspired hotel elevators and submit their own artworks to be considered for display as part of the hotel’s collection.
“Moxy, just like the city of Berlin, is fun, spirited and has its own bold approach to hospitality and we look forward to introducing it to fun-hunting travellers,” said Vicki Poulos, global brand director at Moxy Hotels.
The building was designed by Ellis Williams Architects. Prefabricated timber modular hotel rooms with an attached wet-box element were produced at a factory and designed to be quickly assembled on-site, where the corridors and public zones were then erected and façade cladding and roof sealing added. Design studio APTO then began work on the interior spaces.
Five further Moxy Hotels in London, Oslo and Vienna are expected to open during 2017. Additional locations are planned for New York City, San Francisco, Nashville, Seattle and Chicago in the future.
Marriott created the budget Moxy brand with Inter Hospitality - a subsidiary of Swedish furniture giant IKEA. The Nordic Hospitality group is the first franchisee to operate the brand and will run the Berlin hotel.
