Leisure projects top of the shortlist for the Inside Awards 2015
At least fifteen world class architecture projects shortlisted for the Inside Awards 2015 World Interior of the Year are for leisure venues.
I n the bars and restaurants category is Mecha Uma in the Philippines, designed by Jorge Yulo Architects & Associates.
The project uses concrete, steel, copper, glass and wood using a ‘raw approach’ The kitchen counter is clad in copper and an installation of squares is suspended above the open central kitchen.
In the hotels category, the Hotel Hotel in Canberra features a lobby bedecked with thousands of pieces of repurposed timber, designed by March Studio. A grand staircase leads to lobby and bar of the boutique hotel and above the seating at the bar, large holes have been punched into the concrete giving views of the courtyard above and allowing natural light in.
The St Regis hotel in Istanbul with its Art Deco design by Emre Arolat Architects has also been shortlisted.
More projects where leisure is combined with another function are listed under the Civic, Culture & Transport and Health & Education and Creative Reuse categories.
The winners will be announced at the Inside World Festival of Interiors 2015, which coincides with the World Architecture Festival in Singapore in November.

A new science museum has opened to the public in Haikou after attracting more than 350,000 visitors during a four-month soft opening period.
Designed by Ma Yansong and his practice MAD Architects, the Hainan Science Museum is located on the edge of Wuyuan River National Wetland Park and has already recorded peak attendance of more than 5,800 visitors in a single day.
