Green light for Hornsey Town Hall scheme

Haringey Council has approved plans for the transformation of Hornsey Town Hall into a multi-million pound arts centre for Crouch End, London.
The redevelopment of the Grade II*-listed building - originally designed by architect Reginald Uren and opened during the 1930s - received the green light from the council's planning committee on 12 July. John McAslan and Partners is behind designs for the new-look Hornsey Town Hall, which will incorporate a new two-screen arthouse cinema, a flexible performance and music space and creative studios.
Capita Symonds has been appointed to project manage the renovation, which will also include the creation of recording studios, a bar, a café, a rooftop terrace, youth facilities and an events space for civic ceremonies. Haringey Council has worked with the Hornsey Town Hall Creative Trust on the proposals, which will be part-funded by the development of new housing on surrounding land. The trust will operate the new venue when complete.
Joe Goldberg, the council's cabinet member for finance and resources, said: "We know how much the Town Hall means to local residents and we're really excited at the prospect of seeing it restored to its former glory."
