Work starts on Olympic media centre
Work has now started on the London 2012 International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and Main Press Centre (MPC), the last of the five main construction projects in the Olympic Park to get underway.
The IBC and MPC will accommodate around 20,000 media professionals during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, broadcasting to an estimated audience of four billion people worldwide, before it is converted into 900,000sq ft (83,613sq m) of office space in legacy mode. Other venues at the Olympic Park, including the main stadium, the Olympic Village and the Aquatics Centre, have already started to take shape, while work got underway on the Velodrome earlier this year.
Sebastian Coe, chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: "Millions of people around the world rely on the international media to relay the stories of human endeavour on the field of play. "The impressive facilities we have planned will give us the best possible foundations for telling all the stories from the London 2012 Games while leaving high performance workspace for the east of London."
