Wirral Council announces plans for 'international golf resort'

Wirral Council has launched its vision for an international golf resort in Hoylake.
The council is currently seeking potential developers it could partner with on the project, which - according to initial plans - would include a signature golf course and a luxury spa hotel with extensive wellness, leisure and restaurant facilities.
There is currently no such resort in the area and a recent report by consultants Capita Symonds suggests a market exists for a 'top of the range' facility in the North West.
The proposed site is in close proximity to Royal Liverpool Golf Club (RLGC) and covers 333 acres.
Councillor Ann McLachlan, deputy leader of Wirral Council said: "Tourism plays a major part in Wirral's growing economy.
"The growth has been aided by an improvement in the quality of our tourism businesses, particularly since the RLGC hosted The Open Championship in 2006 and we believe the time is now right to speak to potential developers who would be interested in taking our tourism offer to another level with the development of a high quality golf resort.
"The land we have earmarked near Hoylake through a Capita Symonds feasability study sits in large part within Council ownership and although this is just a vision at present, we would like to find out what interest there is out there to bring a project of this scale forward."
