W Hotels launches Sound Suite recording studios for rock stars on the road
– DJ White Shadow
W Hotels Worldwide has launched a new concept for its European and North American hotel properties: a private music studio, writer’s room and lounge for musicians and producers to use while on the road.
The W Sound Suite will soon open at the W Seattle, allowing hotel guests “to book the studio and live out their rockstar dreams.”
The first of the suites opened at the W Bali Seminyak last year, and additional W Sound Suites are set to debut at W Hollywood and W Barcelona in the coming months.
“The W brand has long been synonymous with music, from the live music programming in our Living Rooms to musicians choosing to stay with us while on tour,” said the company’s global brand leader Anthony Ingham. “The W Sound Suite provides the perfect professional environment for when inspiration strikes – any time, day or night.”
Chicago-based producer DJ White Shadow, best known for his work with Lady Gaga, created the concept in his role as W’s music director. He worked with W Seattle to optimise the Sound Suite’s layout and selected equipment for professional use and sound quality.
“Musicians are constantly on the road, where it’s difficult to find an accessible, professional-quality space to record,” he said. “In Seattle, a city known worldwide for its music scene, W Hotels has brought recording space to the artist.”
W Hotels, which is owned by Marriott International, has partnered with drinks giant Coca Cola on the project, and elements of the studio’s aesthetic, envisioned by Josh Held Design, include references to the brand.
