THFC appoints training centre contractor

Brentwood-based contractor McLaren Construction has been appointed to deliver Tottenham Hotspur Football Club's (THFC) new £45m training facility at Bulls Cross, London.

The facility, which has been designed by KSS Design Group, is set to be used by the club's first team and academy squads and will incorporate a 70m x 50m (230ft x 164ft) indoor artificial pitch. A fitness centre and gym; changing rooms; medical facilities; a canteen and a hydrotherapy/swimming pool will also form part of the new centre, with McLaren Construction's team now on-site.

The training centre is situated at the heart of the Premier League club's new 67-acre (27-hectare) complex, which will also include 11 outdoor pitches installed by Hewitt Sportsturf. Preparatory and groundworks got underway in September 2009, while surveyors Stace and Chelmsford-based Anderson Group also involved with the construction. Base Contracts will complete fitting-out works.

THFC chair Daniel Levy said: "The new training centre will be the best of its kind in Europe when it is built and will be important for the club attracting, training and retaining quality players. "The appointment of contractors for the main building is a key step in the progress of the development and we look forward to McLaren working with us to deliver a world class facility."

McLaren chair Kevin Taylor added: "Following a rigorous selection process we are pleased to be appointed and have now been involved with the academy for over a year during which time we worked closely with Tottenham and the design team as to ensure maximum efficiency is achieved whilst not compromising the quality of this superb facility."
