Pickles backs Battersea Power Station plans

Treasury Holdings has welcomed communities secretary Eric Pickles' decision to approve plans for the £5.5bn redevelopment of London's Battersea Power Station.

The Rafael Viñoly-designed project is one of the largest development projects to be carried out in central London and was approved by Wandsworth Council in November. Pickles' decision means that the scheme - also backed by London mayor Boris Johnson in December - has cleared its last planning hurdle. Work is now due to start in 2012.

Plans for the site include the restoration of the Grade II*-listed power station - taken out of use in 1983 - and 700,000sq ft (65,032sq m) of restaurant and retail space. A hotel, community facilities, a conference centre, a riverside park and public access to the restored areas of the power station building are also proposed.

Treasury Holdings managing director Rob Tincknell said: "Following productive talks with a number of potential investors, we now look forward to bringing an investment partner on board and commencing with the development of the site and the regeneration of the power station."
