Council reveals vision of new-look facility
Sutton Council has unveiled the first look at how Carshalton's Westcroft Leisure Centre is to look, following the completion of an extensive £11.3m revamp to start later this year.
The Hoca Practice-designed refurbishment will see the complex close in October and is set to include an eight-lane swimming pool; a large multi-sports hall; and a gym. A dance studio; a café; IT facilities and a library will also be provided at the new-look venue, which first opened in 1977 and welcomes 600,000 visitors each year.
Westcroft Leisure Centre currently generates £2m in revenues for Sutton Council, but is to undergo a revamp after a council report found that it would cost £4m if it wasn't upgraded. Sutton Council executive member for finance and efficiency John Drage said: "We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop and refurbish this leisure centre.
"It is therefore important that we provide the best facilities that we possibly can, while at the same time ensuring the best possible value for money for the borough's council taxpayers."
