The British Museum has announced the opening of its new Citi Money Gallery, following a major refurbishment of the space housing the institution's extensive money collection.
First opened in 1997, the gallery now incorporates two thematic approaches on either side - the first exploring the issuance of money and the second looking at its cultural significance.
Among the firms to work on the renovation were Coniston, Service Graphics, Colin Bowles and The Lighting Services Partnership, as well as MER Services.
Meanwhile, Studio A were responsible for the 3D design and Suzanne Ben-Nathan carried out graphic design services. The gallery is sponsored by financial conglomerate Citi.
The permanent display will also exhibit finds and hoards as they are discovered, with the museum working with Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure recording process.
Michael Corbat, Citi CEO for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "The gallery allows visitors to get a better understanding of the history of money and see one of the largest collections of coins in the world."
