GOCO designs rooftop spa for upcoming Four Seasons Tokyo with views of Mount Fuji

Four Seasons is preparing to open a luxury hotel in Tokyo, crowned with a GOCO-designed top-floor spa.
Poised to open at the beginning of September 2020, the luxury Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi will be housed within the top six floors of a new, 39-storey tower designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.
GOCO Hospitality is helping to realise the hotel’s 900sq m spa sanctuary with five treatment rooms, and state-of-the-art heat and water facilities with views of Mount Fuji and the Imperial Palace Gardens.
GOCO was engaged by Four Seasons to conduct market research and feasibility studies – conducted by its sister company, Horwath HTL Health and Wellness – and to provide design development services.
The consultancy’s vision for the spa is a blend of contemporary and classic design.
The facility will offer steamrooms, traditional Japanese bathing pools and a heated lounger shower experience, as well as an indoor pool, vitality pool and fitness centre.
The wellness menu will be inspired by traditional Japanese treatments designed to balance the mind and body, using authentic Japanese ingredients.
Guests will be able to enjoy facials, massages and Japanese-inspired signature experiences, as well as a small selection of treatments supplied by Swiss product house, Valmont.
At the spa lobby, a three-dimensional fabric installation by Namiko Kitaura will billow and sweep outwards as if caught in the wind, in a nod to the flowing fabrics of Japanese fashion icon, Issey Miyake.
The 190-key hotel’s interiors evoke an origami-like sense of discovery through layered design motifs envisioned by interiors firm Denniston, under the masterful touch of lead designer Jean-Michel Gathy.
The vision was to create a hotel which reflects the essence of Japan in a modern aesthetic.
“The exciting and elegant Four Seasons Tokyo at Otemachi will become an icon in the dynamic and culturally rich city of Tokyo,” said Ingo Schweder, founder and CEO of GOCO Hospitality.
“I’m excited to see the spa come to life when it opens in September. It’s expected to marry a unique combination of contemporary and traditional wellness experiences for each and every guest.”
The hotel will open with four distinct dining and drinking concepts, and will join the hotel group’s two existing destinations in Japan – Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo Marunouchi and Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto.
