Global expansion of Nickelodeon attractions continues
Nickelodeon-themed areas are coming to parks in Malaysia's Petaling Jaya the Spanish capital Madrid, as part of an ongoing worldwide roll-out.
Viacom International Media Networks, which oversees the Nickelodeon brand, has announced a partnership with The Sunway Group in Malaysia to develop a RM100m (US$30.6m, €22.1m, £18.1m) themed attraction based on the popular children’s television network at the 356,123sq m (3,833,280sq ft) Sunway Lagoon theme park.
The 40,469sq m (435,600sq ft) Nickelodeon Explorer’s Oasis, which will include a variety of water attractions, is expected to open in March 2015. The themed area will also contain Nickelodeon-branded retail shops, games and food outlets.
At Parque de Atracciones de Madrid in Spain, the 15,000sq m (161,459sq ft) themed area will be called Nickelodeon Land, and will be designed by David Theming Works. Attractions will feature Dora’s Adventure and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: License to Drive rides, two live theatrical shows, and street entertainment.
A restaurant, shopping outlets and leisure areas will also be included.
Other Nickelodeon attractions and parks around the world include Nickelodeon Universe in Minneapolis' Mall of America, Nickland at Movie Park Germany and Nickelodeon Land at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
