Silvertown redevelopment plans approved
Newham Council has backed Castlelands Construction Company's plans for the mixed-use redevelopment of vacant land at Tidal Basin Road in Silvertown, East London.
The project, which has now been referred to the mayor of London, will comprise a 17-storey hotel building offering 250 rooms and serviced apartments, as well as a health club. Residential units and retail space are also earmarked as part of the redevelopment, which has been designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) architects.
A report put before the council's strategic development committee said: "The architectural quality of the building is considered to be exceptional and will create an elegant landmark building, appropriate for this site at the gateway to the Royal Docks. "It is considered that a compelling proposition of high quality contemporary architecture and place making is emerging in accordance with the regeneration agenda established by the relevant policies."
