Planners back £31m Redcar scheme
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC) planners have approved the development of a £31m leisure, business support and community facility in the heart of Redcar.
S&P Architects and Plus3 Architects are behind the design of the complex, which is set to feature a 25m, six-lane swimming pool and leisure pool; a fitness suite; and a junior gym. A dance hall and performance space; a sports hall; community facilities; business space for small to medium-sized enterprises; and landscaped public spaces are also proposed.
Buckler Demolition of Middlesbrough are now due to start work on clearing the site ahead of the scheme next week, which will be between Kirkleatham Street and Coatham Road. RCBC cabinet member for economic development Mark Hannon said: "The new leisure, business support and community facility will help to create and safeguard 260 jobs.
"This is a really exciting time for Redcar with more than £75 million of investment in the town over the next 3 years." RCBC cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism Sheelagh Clarke added: "I am delighted that the planners have supported the project and look forward to see it take shape and create a real attraction for Redcar."
