New £6m facility for University of Brighton
The University of Brighton has opened a new £6m sports centre at its Falmer Campus in East Sussex, which has been designed by S&P Architects.
Leadbitter Construction was appointed to deliver the new facility, which replaces a former gymnasium that made way for Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club's stadium development. Facilities at the Falmer centre include 400sq m (4,306sq ft) main fitness suite and two 180sq m (1,938sq ft) studios equipped with more than 80 stations of Life Fitness machines.
Life Fitness has installed its Elevation Engage cv range, which includes recumbent bikes and treadmills. Hammer Strength and Signature Series strength equipment is also available. A six-court sports hall, two activity studios, a seminar room and a synthetic pitch are also among the facilities on offer at the venue, along with a netball centre and outdoor pitches.
Sarah Hogg, the University of Brighton's head of sport, said: "This is a tremendous asset for the university and the investment will support student and staff recruitment and retention and will, hopefully, encourage more of the university community to making physical activity a part of daily life."
