Cardiff Airport set for terminal revamp
Cardiff Airport has unveiled plans for the extensive refurbishment of its terminal building as part of a comprehensive review into the facility's status as Wales' national airport.
In addition to the terminal revamp, the airport has also undergone a brand review that has resulted in the renaming of the airport as Cardiff Airport/Maes Awyr Caerdydd and the creation of a new logo. Work on the terminal building will include new food and retail services, as well as the creation of a new large common area to link the arrivals and departures halls.
The project is scheduled to get underway in October, and it is hoped that the refurbishment will be completed by summer 2010 in time for the Ryder Cup later that year. Cardiff Airport's managing director, Patrick Duffy, said: "The airport will benefit from this investment, which will present a more discerning image domestically and internationally, and provide a backdrop to continue to deliver high standards of service for passengers.
"These plans demonstrate the airport's commitment to being part of a wider strategy for Wales. We want to see our facilities being used by more airlines offering more choice to both Welsh patrons and visitors to Wales."
