Obama promotes liveable cities and green transport with White House budget proposal

US President Barack Obama will promote the advancement of liveable cities next week with a White House budget proposal raising money for green transportation projects. According to reports, the mooted proposal would raise funding for environmental infrastructure initiatives by making US oil firms pay a tax of US$10 (€8.90, £6.85) on every barrel of oil they produce. Hungary triples budget as it finalises Budapest cultural quarter

Hungary’s government has finalised and approved plans to create a new museum quarter, significantly inflating the previous budget by around three times to HUF200bn (US$710.3m, €643.3m, £464.3m). Small and medium-sized leisure businesses should find it easier to secure bank loans and funding, according to plans outlined by chancellor Alistair Darling in today's budget announcement. The budget - the last by chancellor Alistair Darling before the expected general election in May - will see Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds make £94bn available in business loans.
