World of the Hunger Games comes to Motiongate Dubai
The world’s first Hunger Games theme park attraction has opened to the public in Dubai, as Lionsgate and DXB Entertainments celebrated the highly anticipated launch at the operator’s recently opened Motiongate park in the UAE.
Called World of the Hunger Games, the new addition to Motiongate – part of Dubai Parks and Resorts – features a rollercoaster, street show, café and retail outlet, all set inside an immersive land recreating the Hunger Games world as seen in the movie quadrilogy.
Mack Rides has developed the steel launched shuttle coaster for the zone, which is based on a trip from District 12 to the Capitol. Similar in style to the manufacturer’s Star Trek: Operation Enterprise at Movie Park Germany, the ride is 570m (1,870ft) in length and reaches a height of 32m (105ft).
Invited by President Snow on an aerial tour of Panem, a 4D experience is included in the experience, with the virtual hovercraft taking visitors over each of the world’s districts during a trip to the Capitol.
The street show sees residents of District 12 from the Hunger Games create a musical piece with creative use of work tools for an “interactive musical extravaganza”. The café, based on Peeta’s bakery, offer a range of food and beverage choices, all themed to the Hunger Games experience. The retail element, called Panem Supply Co, sells exclusive movie merchandise based on the Hunger Games and other Lionsgate IPs.
“Motiongate Dubai is a fantastic partner,” said Lionsgate’s chief brand officer and president of worldwide marketing, Tim Palen. “Together, we have created an interactive experience that allows fans from around the world a chance to immerse themselves in the Hunger Games world, which was created in an authentic, fun and exciting way.”
The Hunger Games brand has gone from strength to strength since the first film’s release in 2012. Several attractions related to the brand are in the works, most recently as part of a Lionsgate theme park at Jeju Shinhwa World in South Korea, and as part of a Lionsgate experience in Times Square, New York.
