UKSA mobilises industry to press Boris Johnson for reopening date
– Helena Grzesk
The UK Spa Association (UKSA) is urging industry members to lobby the government for a reopening date by sending letters directly to the Prime Minister and their local MPs.
The trade body has worked alongside industry partners within the Beauty, Aesthetics and Wellbeing All-Party Parliamentary Group to create the documents which urge the government to take steps to reopen the spa, beauty and wellness industry and provide a definitive date for reopening.
UKSA GM, Helena Grzesk, said: “We’ve asked the government to allow the spa industry to reopen in line with very strict safety guidelines, but our calls have not been heard.
“We now need to unite and challenge the government, like never before, to reconsider the re-opening of the spa, wellness and beauty sector alongside hairdressers, and provide a specific date one which we will be allowed to open.
“The longer facilities are forced to remain closed, the more jobs are at risk as many businesses may never be able to reopen their doors."
The UKSA has created two template letters – one to be sent from spa businesses to the Prime Minister, as well as a letter to be sent to MPs for businesses to distribute to guests, members, partners and stakeholders.
Both documents outline the importance of the spa and wellness sector's contribution to the economy, highlighting that UK spas contribute £2.1bn to the UK economy while the hair and beauty service industry alone contributes £6.6bn.
The template letter for the Prime Minister can be downloaded here, and should be sent to [email protected].
To find your local MP, industry members can type their postcode here and download the template this link for MPs.
