Therabody and Garmin partner up to optimise recovery
Recovery and wellbeing technology company, Therabody, has teamed up with smart watch provider, Garmin, to support people in optimising their recovery.
As well as collecting data from runners, cyclists and swimmers, Garmin has engineered sensors that measure a wide range of metrics such as heart rate, sleep and physical activity, which can then provide insights into stress levels, energy levels and overall cardiovascular performance.
Therabody scientists will use this data to measure the impact of recovery on athletic performance, including how Therabody routines and products – such as the Theragun – affect positive outcomes.
"To be able to combine Garmin's health and activity data with Therabody's recovery routines will provide personalised recovery recommendations that are not available with any other wearable integration," said Monty Sharma, president and CEO of Therabody.
Susan Lyman, Garmin's VP of global consumer marketing, said the collaboration will inform people on both their training and recovery: "By providing athletes with these tools, they can make more informed training decisions and, in turn, work to take their performance to the next level."
Therabody is also launching a beta version of an AI-powered digital recovery platform, Coach by Therabody. Part of the Therabody app, Coach by Therabody is designed to continuously analyse health and activity data alongside the user’s goals to offer tailored recovery recommendations developed by sports scientists and performance professionals.
By collecting data from Garmin smart watches along with platforms such as Apple, Google and Strava, Coach by Therabody will offer a personalised recovery experience in real-time, offering reminders and custom recommendations that support athletic performance and general wellbeing.
"It's important to note that Therabody is not doing AI for AI's sake," said Therabody CMO, John Solomon. "As with all our products, we looked at how AI could solve a problem for our consumers and over time, feeding it with the rich data from Garmin will allow us to really understand how recovery impacts performance at a scale that's not been achievable until now."
Therabody has completed 25 scientific studies with 26 more in progress and has over 75,000 scientific articles supporting the efficacy of its products and treatments.
