Thai Zen Space rollout for Iberostar
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts group is to roll out its Thai Zen Space spa concept to a total of eight of its 37 Spanish resorts this year.
Each Thai Zen Space focuses on traditional Asian therapies at affordable prices. The first spa site opened in May at Iberostar’s flagship Spanish property, the Grand Hotel Anthelia in Tenerife, which was joined at the beginning of June by the Albufera Playa, Suites Jardin del Sol and Royal Cristina resorts, all in Majorca.
The spa will be designed by Iberostar’s Vicente Martinez and use Thai Zen Space’s own brand of products.
Each spa has a massage and treatment area of approximately 200sq m (2,150sq ft), with three treatment rooms and one treatment suite plus a chillout area, a relaxation room, a sauna, a steam room and a swimming pool.
Additional facilities at selected resorts will also include a swimming pool, a thermal circuit, a shower circuit, a rain shower, a steam room or a marine flotation pool.
Treatments will include body wraps, facial therapies and water experiences – such as the Javanese floral bath – alongside Thai, Balinese, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Ayurvedic and four-handed massages and body scrubs such as apple and green tea and tumeric and honey.
Thai Zen therapists will have attended either the Wat Po or Banyan Tree training school.
Although there are no immediate plans to rollout Thai Zen Space past the initial eight sites, Iberostar intends to monitor their success and eventually intends to make the luxury Eastern spa experience more accessible to the group’s other key markets across Europe.
Elsewhere within the Iberostar portfolio, the company recently opened its first hotel in Brazil, the five-star Iberostar Bahia in the Salvador de Bahia region on the Praia do Forte coastline.
Situated directly on the beach, the 632-bedroom Iberostar Bahia features an 18-hole golf course and a 2,600sqm (28,000sq ft) swimming pool, reportedly the largest of any Brazilian resort.
A further two Iberostar hotels are planned to open within the Salvador de Bahia region over the next three years, which will bring the group’s total investment in area to £136m (US$253m, 199m euro). Details: www.iberostar.com
