Stadium complex plans for Hong Kong
The Home Affairs Bureau of the Hong Kong government has outlined plans for a 45,000-seat stadium with retractable roof, removable pitch and track and field facilities on the former site of the Kai Tak airport in South East Kowloon.
There are also plans for a secondary stadium with a capacity of around 5,000, with a 400m track and infill of natural or artificial turf and a 4,000-seat arena to hold basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and handball events.
The plans are part of the South East Kowloon Development scheme which also involves a cruise terminal and metropolitan park.
UK-based consultants PMP have been brought in to study the financial viability of the complex.
PMP will advise on an event schedule and feed it into Hong Kong-based consultants Evans & Peck’s business model for the project. Evans & Peck will be assessing the cost of the complex whilst managing the study from a local perspective.
