Siggraph 2015 to host VR Village exploring emerging technologies
Siggraph – the annual five-day conference on the latest in computer graphics and interactive techniques – is launching a programme featuring real time immersion in the latest virtual and augmented realities with its debuting VR Village.
Taking place between 9-13 August at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California, the VR Village at Siggraph will feature real-time immersion in the latest virtual and augmented realities, including Nomadic Virtual Reality (VR), Tabletop Augmented Reality (AR), Full-Dome Cinema, and a 360-degree immersion dome.
The new addition offers attendees the chance to explore emerging technologies in VR, AR and immersive environments as a method of telling stories, engaging audiences, and powering real-world applications across multiple sectors.
In the Nomadic VR Arena, a walk-about space will allow participants to freely explore immersive virtual environments with untethered headsets. Alternate Head-Mounted Display Stations offer attendees the latest in sit-down and stand-up VR and AR, while Immersion Dome is a 360-degree screening room with live performances and demonstrations.
“VR, AR and immersive environments are part of a fast-growing, emerging market,” said Siggraph 2015 VR Village program co-chair, Ed Lantz. “As it grows, there’s room for alternative and independent producers, developers, distributors, and manufacturers to make important and original contributions to consumer products and programming.”
The VR Village will also include a series of moderated talks around the theme of ‘VR: Creating at the Edge’. Speakers will include executives from Walt Disney Imagineering R&D, Sony’s PlayStation Magic Lab, Emblematic Group and Jaunt Studios.
