Serco Leisure to expand fitness offering with obstacle course launch
– James Palmer, general manager, Holme Pierrepont Country Park
Serco Leisure is entering the obstacle course market as it looks to diversify its fitness facilities.
'Warrior Assault' will consist of more than 30 obstacles including a three-storey super slide called ‘Take Off’, monkey bars, tyre walls and mud zones.
The operator will begin a full rollout in June, providing a range of courses for young people and two options for adults – a 5km or 10km course.
A free trial event will take place next month at Holme Pierrepont Country Park in Nottingham.
The park, which is operated by Serco, already offers a variety of health and fitness activities, including a 60-station gym with classes, a climbing wall, sky trail, kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting and laser tag.
“We know this is an important time of year for people looking to improve their fitness and obstacle course races offer a fun way of doing this,” said James Palmer, general manager of Holme Pierrepont Country Park.
“Our aim is to encourage as many people as possible to enjoy healthy, active lifestyles so we’ve made sure the event is suitable for all abilities, as well as including a course for children to encourage families to take up exercise and get fit together.”
The trial will be hosted by Rob Edmond, best known for his role as the trainer from ITV1’s weight loss show ‘The Biggest Loser’ with Davina McCall.
He will offer visitors advice on how to approach the course and how to train for obstacle races.
