Planet Fitness reaches 2,000 club milestone

Planet Fitness has opened its 2,000th health club in Colorado Springs, Colorado, US.

The fitness franchise reached the milestone following a record year of growth – 261 new Planet Fitness sites opened during 2019.

The company now has a presence in every US state, as well as sites in Puerto Rico, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Mexico.

In November 2019, it revealed plans to expand its footprint into Australia.

The first sites will be located in Tuggerah and Gosford in the Central Coast of New South Wales, while a location in Casula is expected to open in 2020.

"I'm proud to announce this milestone, which demonstrates how our affordable approach to fitness continues to resonate with consumers," said Chris Rondeau, CEO.

"2019 has been a milestone year of growth for us; with more Planet Fitness locations opened than in any year in our history, and I believe we are just getting started.

"Our growth is incredible and we continue to see an opportunity to double our domestic store count over time and bring fitness to even more people's backyards."
