Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou appoints new director of spa
Somsuk Nakwatcharadilok has joined Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou as director of spa after 15 years in the spa industry.
A Thai national from South Thailand, Nakwatcharadilok is known as Suki amongst her colleagues and friends.
Her interest in wellbeing was influenced by her mother and grandmother, and she began her career at The Banyan Tree Spa in Phuket, Thailand as spa therapist. She was soon promoted to spa trainer, and later worked at the Banyan Tree in Shanghai and Banyan Tree Yunnan.
Thereafter, she left the Banyan Tree group to join the pre-opening of Mandarin Oriental, Sanya as spa treatment manager in 2008, before joining the Ritz Carlton Sanya in 2012 as spa director role.
The hotel has recently launched the Oriental Bamboo Clear treatment, which is designed to help clear the body and mind of the daily life stresses and pollutants, stimulate the senses and restore physical and mental health to optimum levels.
The treatment starts with a steam shower followed with a detoxifying foot ritual, focusing on eliminating pressure points on the feet with salt. Guests are then enveloped in an activated charcoal and pear balsam body wrap, and a pear balsam mask is applied to the hair. To complete the treatment, a facial lymphatic drainage massage using a balancing oil and a rock crystal is performed.
