DLL continues investment programme with 100th UK club milestone
– Glenn Earlam, CEO at DLL
David Lloyd Leisure (DLL) has revealed details of its landmark 100th UK club, which is due to open in December 2019 at Emersons Green, Bristol.
The £11m (US$14.5m, €12.8m) site sees the health, fitness and racquets group continue an aggressive investment and expansion programme, which so far has seen DLL invest in 15 clubs across seven territories in Ireland and on the European mainland.
The move also adds to the company's UK portfolio, which currently includes 96 David Lloyd Clubs and three Harbour Clubs in premium West London locations.
Emersons Green will be the third DLL club in the Bristol area, creating more than 80 local jobs.
DLL also said it will offer "premium health and fitness facilities for all the family". These will include a 100-plus station gym, four group exercise studios, an indoor cycling studio, Mind & Body studios, and a new boutique-style Blaze studio.
Blaze studios are exclusive to DLL and are currently offered in a select number of its clubs. Designed to burn calories fast (up to 1000 calories in a 55-minute class) and improve cardiovascular fitness, they use Woodway treadmills as well as strength and combat equipment.
Also included at Emersons Green will be a 20-metre indoor and 25-metre outdoor heated swimming pool, offering activities such as aqua aerobics, family swim times and quiet adult sessions. There will also be an indoor learner pool and outdoor kids' pool.
Three air bubble courts and an indoor show court offer members year-round tennis facilities. The club will offer structured swimming and tennis coaching, as well as after-school and holiday clubs for children in a dedicated DL Kids zone. These clubs will be synchronised with the adult group exercise programme.
An indoor spa, outdoor spa garden, cafe-bar with a family zone and indoor soft play area, an adults-only area and business hub, and a leafy outdoor patio area, round out the facilities at Emersons Green.
Glenn Earlam, CEO of David Lloyd Leisure, said: "We've come a long way since we opened our very first club in Heston in 1982, but this is just the latest step in our accelerated growth across Europe.
"We now have clubs in seven territories, but we are currently looking at a number of other markets in Europe, as well as consolidating our presence in existing locations. We are well on track to achieve our target of 150 clubs by 2026."
