Caribbean debut for Hard Rock International
Hard Rock International has debuted in the Caribbean with the opening of the 1,800-room Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
The 121-acre (49ha) property on Macao Beach - formerly the Moon Palace Casino Golf & Spa Resort - is also the company's first all-inclusive hotel and casino, with design by 555 International in conjunction with Gettys. It features Hard Rock's usual iconic music memorabilia, while the accommodation includes the company's Concierge Level, Signature Presidential, Royal Villa and Rock Star suites.
Claimed to be the largest in the country, the resort's 48,000sq ft (4,460sq m) Las Vegas-style casino offers an exclusive high-limit poker room, VIP lounge, race and sports book, 457 slot machines and 40 gaming tables. Elsewhere is Hard Rock's signature Rock Spa, a 60,000sq ft (5,574sq m) space housing 35 spa suites, 11 indoor and outdoor couples spa suites, and two Golden VIP suites. A hydrotherapy centre offers lagoons, two whirlpools, colour therapy steam rooms, a clay steam room, sauna, food creek pathway, hydro-reflexology, sensory expertise pool, and an ice room.
Other facilities include 11 restaurants, more than 65,000sq ft (6,039sq m) of meeting space, an 18-hole golf course, 11 pools, four swim-up bars, a kid's pool and a lazy river. Opening shortly will be the 10,000sq ft (929sq m), two-level, Francois Frossard-designed Oro nightclub featuring an infinity edge bar, and a Kerry Simon restaurant.
