BDP secures two new projects in Suzhou

Manchester-based Building Design Partnership (BDP) has revealed that it has secured two new projects in Suzhou, China - including a major new sport-themed park at Yinshan Lake.

Suzhou Yinshan Lake Sports Centre will provide a 4,600sq m (49,514sq ft) leisure complex based around an indoor sports hall on a site that has already undergone landscaping work. Meanwhile, Suzhou Dushu Lake Masterplan will lead to a mixed-use development on a key gateway site into the city and will feature two 220-bedroom luxury hotels.

An ecological park connected to the waterfront will also form part of the masterplan, as well as retail, residential and office accommodation. Steve Gillham, head of BDP's Shanghai studio, said: "BDP has a long history and excellent reputation within all the sectors that China is looking to develop; and projects like Liverpool One demonstrate how we can deliver large scale schemes sensitively and seamlessly.

"This is crucial in cities like Suzhou where a balance between respecting and preserving ancient assets, and the creation of new urban realm, needs to be carefully maintained." Image: BDP
