Two luxury Anantara spas open in Oman

by Rebecca Barnes | 27 Jan 2017

Two opulent new Anantara resorts in Oman, Al Baleed Resort Salalah and Al Jabal Al Akdhar are now open.

The only luxury villa resort in Salalah, Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara comprises 136 rooms including 88 villas with private pools. Located 15 minutes from Salalah International Airport, the resort is also near the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site, Al Baleed Archaeological Park.

Designed to reflect the heritage of the Dhofar region, the Dhofari design is inspired by the region’s coastal fortresses and is surrounded by palms, trees, tropical gardens and water features.

Spa facilities include five luxury treatment rooms, the only hammam in Salalah, Razul treatment rooms, wellness relaxation areas, a traditional Thai massage suite, and a female salon and nail spa.

Also on site is a 50 metre (164ft) outdoor infinity pool, sports facilities, water sports, diving centre, fully equipped gym, and children and teens clubs.

Cleansing spa rituals inspired by the wellness traditions of Arabia, Thailand and Asia are available, as well as holistic ayurvedic therapies and beauty treatments using indigenous ingredients.

Located in the northeast of Oman, Anantara Al Jabal Al Akdhar Resort is perched 2,000m (6,562ft) above sea level on a mountain plateau. The 24,000m resort features 82 bedrooms and 33 villas with private pools and personal butlers.

The highest five-star resort in the Middle East, it has been developed and owned by the Ministry of Defence Pension Fund, one of the largest pension funds in Oman that has been on the forefront in investments with a strategic and long-term view.

Inspired by surrounding ancient forts, mud-brick villages and castles, the design pays homage to Oman’s Green Mountain. With a budget of $65m, award-winning French-Moroccan architect Lotfi Sidirahal from Atelier PoD, used traditional building techniques and local building materials, including stone taken from the mountain.

Incorporating Balance, Anantara's wellness concept, the resort offers a variety of health, wellbeing and healing elements; guests can book private consultations and treatments, take healthy cooking classes and incorporate juicing into their diet, or work out in the privacy of their room with Anantaras' gym kit service.

Spa facilities include a private hammam suite, five luxury treatment rooms including two couple’s suites, a beauty salon, and separate male and female thermal suites each featuring a salt steam room, aroma sauna room, experience showers, private indoor relaxation bed chambers, and outdoor relaxation suites with loungers.

The Himalayan Salt Room combines salt from the Himalayas with advanced modern therapy. This allows guests to experience how salt-filled air can help draw out toxins, deep cleanse the skin and purify the body.

There is also a health station serving homemade snacks, freshly blended juices, smoothies, herbal teas and wellness cuisine offering nutritional options.

Healing holistic therapies include pure active botanicals while healing massages, scrubs, facials and wraps use indigenous ingredients harvested from nearby pomegranate tree, rose terraces and frankincense plantations.

The Revitalising Pomegranate Journey utilises the nourishing and regenerating properties of fresh pomegranates blended with a salt scrub, complemented with an Arabian massage and a milk and Oriental spice foot cleansing ritual.

Signature experience the Rose Rescue Ritual uses Damask roses which have been cultivated for centuries in Al Jabal Al Akdhar and includes a rose water and cucumber welcome drink.

Guests can also choose from day spa packages, hammam rituals and couples treatments, including the Royal Couples Escape which is performed in a private, couples hammam room. Anantara's Balance Wellness Programme includes three-day De-stress and Relax, Detox and Weight Loss or Peaking Fitness packages.
