Cushions and cattle troughs combine as luxury boutique hotel opens in 16th century Italian farmhouse
A nine-suite boutique hotel located in a converted 16th century farmhouse opens tomorrow (24 March) near the historic city of Lecce in southern Italy.
Masseria Trapana has been designed to create “a luxury getaway” for guests, who will be surrounded by authentic design features from the 1500s, including vaulted ceilings, murals and fireplaces carved in local Tufo and Piertra Leccese stone.
Owner Rob Potter-Sanders has spent two years renovating the property to be as true to its origins as possible, while also offering a comfortable space for relaxation.
The hotel’s interiors are a combination of original features from the farm, such as cattle feeding troughs found during the renovation, with more modern furnishings, including Moroccan cushions that cover the handmade iron beds.
Inspired by the hotels of Thailand and Bali, many of the suites have their own outdoor bathtub, private courtyard and external shower.
Masseria Trapana also includes a large pool and six tranquil gardens with hammocks, sunken seating areas surrounded by nineteen varieties of fruit and nut tree.
The hotel also features an open-plan kitchen and restaurant serving traditional ‘Cucina Povera’ cuisine using fresh ingredients from the region.
Later this year, Masseria Trapana will also be launching Hatha Yoga sessions and in-room massage and reflexology.
