Japanese-inspired wellness centre Akari opens in Dubai with sacred geometry design
– Valentina Cereda, founder, Energy and Space
A wellness centre called Akari has opened in One Central, Dubai in the UAE, with medicinal architecture inspired by Japanese design principles.
Akari, which translates from Japanese to light, brightness or glow, is a wellness company founded by creative director and hospitality advisor Katia de Rham.
The design
The new 200sq m space has been designed by Valentina Cereda, founder of the architecture firm Energy and Space.
The concept combines sacred ancient wisdom with regenerative design principles such as classical Feng Shui, sacred geometry, geomancy and building biology.
The materials used to create the space were selected for their non-toxic and sustainable properties, but also for their vibrational qualities. Wood, limewash and organic materials are said to combine with light to create a sanctuary “that breathes with those who enter.”
A rose quartz crystal pyramid sits in a central space, which is said to radiate vibrations of self-love and healing. This energy is designed to be amplified by a dome above, in the ceiling.
Cereda told Spa Business, “The objective was to create a truly healthy space that becomes medicinally supportive of Akari’s wellness therapies, designed by integrating ancient and sacred wisdom combined with regenerative organic materials.
“At Akari, every proportion, angle and pathway is designed to support natural coherence and harmonic resonance, creating a space where architecture becomes the first medicine,” Cereda added. “This is the approach and philosophy of all our projects.”
The space is described as a tuning instrument for guests, gently guiding the body, mind and spirit back into balance as they experience the facilities.
Treatments
Akari offers guests a range of advanced technology treatments in four therapy rooms:
Red light therapy starts at AED400 (US$109, €100, £84) for one session, with discounts on packages of five and ten.
IHHT oxygen training takes place in a meditation pod, costing AED750 (US$204, €188, £158) for one individual session and discounts on packages.
The company may add a hyperbaric chamber for therapies too.
There is also a Brain Bar, which is a dining space serving adaptogen-infused food and beverages.
