Farrells' Hong Kong Police Club will be state-of-the-art leisure space

A recreation club for senior police officials in Hong Kong has been demolished to make way for a new facility designed by TFP Farrells.

The scheme is part of a wider multi billion-dollar infrastructure project linking Hong Kong Island and the mainland via the Shatin to Central Link rail network. The police club will sit atop newly-installed cross-harbour tunnels.

Construction work can now begin on the new Hong Kong Police Club, which will feature a sports hall, gym, indoor bowling lawn, outdoor pool and rooftop tennis courts. Restaurants, cafes and bars will look out over the harbourside and Causeway Bay.

Stefan Krummeck, director of TFP Farrells, said: “Designing this new club in Hong Kong was an exciting challenge for our team, as the site was tightly hemmed in by transport infrastructure and height restrictions.

“The new building provides an experience which is wholly focused on the site’s greatest strengths: its waterside location and the spectacular views of Victoria Harbour and the Kowloon skyline.”

The club will incorporate a sustainable features including solar panels and hot water collectors and a green roof. Existing trees will be maintained in a secluded new courtyard at the rear of the building.

The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
