£12m Matlock leisure centre nears opening
Derbyshire Dales District Council (DDDC) has revealed that Arc Leisure Matlock - a new £12m complex designed by Dyer - is to open to the public for the first time on 24 August.
Built by Morgan Sindall and project managed by Drivers Jonas Deloitte, the facility is to be handed over the council in mid-August ahead of the scheduled opening date. The existing Matlock Lido will close on 14 August to be replaced by Arc Leisure Matlock, which will comprise an eight-lane, 25m regional competition-standard swimming pool.
A 50-station gym fitted with cardiovascular and resistance equipment, such as Kinesis One and Cardio Wave, and a teaching pool and splash pad will also be on offer at the complex. Other facilities will include regional-standard badminton courts; spaces for indoor hockey, basketball, five-a-side football and gymnastics; and revamped outdoor football pitches.
DDDC has funded the scheme, with support also provided by Sport England; the Amateur Swimming Association; and the East Midlands Development Agency. Matlock and Area Sports and Recreation Group also contributed to the cost of Arc Leisure Matlock, which will be managed by Paul Blakemore.
