Waldorf Astoria's Mexican hillside beach resort is only accessible by tunnel

by Jane Kitchen | 26 Sep 2019

Waldorf Astoria has taken on a hotel and spa built on the beach and into the foot of a hillside at the tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula that is only accessible by the privately owned Dos Mares Tunnel.

Formerly known as The Resort at Pedregal, the 25-acre resort, situated at Pedregal in Los Cabos, has 119 guest rooms and suites, all of which have ocean views, private plunge pools and design inspired by the surrounding area’s natural elements. Rooms also feature rainforest showers, stand-alone bathtubs and outdoor areas with fire pits.

Among its other amenities, the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal offers a 12,000sq ft (1,100sq m) spa, an infinity pool that flows into the Pacific Ocean, a saltwater pool and a children's pool.

Guests arrive via the 984ft (300m) long Dos Mares Tunnel, which was built for The Resort at Pedregal and runs through the Cabo San Lucas mountains that separate the town of Cabo San Lucas from the resort and its Pacific enclave.

"The Waldorf Astoria brand has been setting the standard for luxury and personalized service across the globe for more than 100 years," said Dino Michael, global head of Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts. "The conversion of Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal reflects this commitment to expand our luxury portfolio and bring our True Waldorf Service to the world’s most sought-after and inspiring destinations."
