Urban park plans for Loughborough
Proposals for a £16m scheme designed to revitalise the centre of Loughborough, Leicestershire, by increasing access for pedestrians and cyclists are to be put on public display in December.
Charnwood Borough Council (CBC), working with Leicestershire County Council, will put forward ideas to local residents and businesses between 10-13 December. Forming part of CBC's Town Centre Masterplan for Loughborough, the plans include the pedestrianisation of a number of streets, as well as the installation of street furniture and public art. A new inner relief road to reroute the A6 and additional bus stops are also outlined as part of the scheme.
Stephen Hampson, CBC's cabinet member for regeneration, said: "The aim is to create the conditions within which businesses can thrive and prosper, and a town centre in which residents and visitors can shop and gather in comfort and safety." The work, which is subject to planning permission, could be paid for by the government after it was announced that the scheme was included in the Department of Transport's funding shortlist at the start of November.
